Bristol-based Veya Homes have been awarded the first ever GiB Project Certificate for the completion of four new homes in Rangeworthy, using 82% UK-grown, locally-sourced timber throughout the build.

Initial analysis of three existing build projects showed that 91% of the timber used was from non-UK sources. This figure is partly due to limited availability of certain specifications of timber for construction, and partly due to design choices – 6% of materials used in Veya’s constructions required a design change to accommodate UK supply.

As GiB Certificate Holder and owner of Vastern Timber, Tom Barnes, has said repeatedly in the past “Availability engineering is the new term; altering building specifications based on what’s available. It’s looking good for home grown timber.” Even with such a mindset, alterations to just 6% of a design is a reassuringly low rate for those interested in bringing more GiB timber into new building designs.

With a GiB-centric mindset applied to the complete design of the Rangeworthy homes, the Veya team were able to complete the build using an incredible 82% certified homegrown timber throughout the buildings

As a cherry on top of the whole project, all plants for landscaping were sourced from a Plant Healthy certified supplier!
