Unprecedented demand leads to calls for more GiB licensed wood

There is currently unprecedented demand for home grown timber, driven by rising import prices, greater use of timber and a desire from public and private businesses to use more assured homegrown timber products.

The heat of the summer is reflected in the ‘heat’ in the timber markets from woodfuel (very hot !) though to sawn timber for construction and the trend seems to be continuing as demand in China and many other parts of the globe, also strengthen.

Grown in Britain assured timber represents only about 10% of the homegrown supply but we have an array of fans who want to see much MUCH! more of the home grown supply assured as Grown in Britain. Companies such as Vastern Timber, Lavers Timber Merchants, Nando’s BAM and Willmott Dixon… to name but a few, all want the UK supply chain to be assured as Grown in Britain so that they can be absolutely sure that the timber is from legal and sustainable sources and it is 100% from the UK

Shaun Getson WH Bond Timber Manager said “We are very proud owners of a Grown in Britain licence and we want to buy and stock as many certified GiB products as possible and so we encourage all of our suppliers to get a licence. We do this not only because we care deeply about homegrown timber products but also because our customers value the assurance that comes with the Grown in Britain mark”.

Self proclamation from companies about British origin is simply not enough when robust certification is required.

The government are pressing for more Grown in Britain branded timber too, both through local authority and national projects and the welcome announcement in the 25 year Environment Plan, that they will work with us to get more assured timber into construction.

This is a fantastic boost but it can only happen if the businesses in the homegrown supply chain obtain GiB licences.

The process of getting a Grown in Britain Chain of Custody licence is straightforward with fair fees based on turnover and a range of independent approved auditors ready to deliver an on site audit contact enquiries@growninbritain.org

Lets meet this rising demand by simply addressing what we already produce and ‘brand up’ our existing homegrown supplies
