BRE and GiB supports British softwood trial

The WPA in partnership with the BRE and Grown in Britain is conducting a controlled field trial of sawn and treated British softwood posts.

Treated with preservative by a high pressure impregnation process, the posts will be trailed at two UK sites with differing soil conditions – one in Scotland and the other in England.

The purpose of the trial is to assess the natural durability of various types of commercially grown softwood (spruce, pine, Dougals fir and Larch) in Britain when treated with different preservatives and in different UK ground conditions.
